“Yes” – Romano’s encouraging response when asked if Spurs will sign player with 23 goals & 21 assists this summer

Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest regarding Timo Werner’s potential permanent move to Tottenham.

The North London club completed the signing of the German international from RB Leipzig on a loan deal in January which includes an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Should Spurs opt for a permanent move, they would need to pay a transfer fee of £15 million, according to the terms of the arrangement.

He has had a decent start to his second spell in the Premier League, swiftly adapting to Ange Postecoglou’s system at Tottenham.

In his brief time with the club, the German forward has contributed with 2 goals and 2 assists in just 446 minutes of Premier League action across 8 appearances.

Werner’s promising start has sparked discussions about the potential for a permanent stay. Despite being under contract with RB Leipzig until June 2026, uncertainty surrounds his future with the Bundesliga side.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Spurs activating the buy option for Werner is a possibility, echoing sentiments shared by Leipzig manager Marco Rose.

When asked whether the club will activate Werner’s option to buy clause, Romano told JD Football (via TheSpursWatch):

    “I think it’s a possibility, yes.”

Given the experience he possesses as well as the price he is available for, he is being considered as a tempting bargain option for the club.

Before rejoining Leipzig, Werner scored 23 goals and provided 21 assists in 89 appearances for Chelsea.

Tottenham will have to make a decision timely to trigger his option to buy clause latest by the start of Euro 2024 as it expires after that.

Given his impact and the potential transfer fee involved, the prospect of Werner remaining with Spurs beyond the loan deal appears promising.
