That’s because he’s apparently keen to join Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground instead of moving to West Ham. Bolvaip Brasil are claiming that Douglas Luiz wants to join Nottingham Forest before Monday’s deadline.
That’s very bad news for the Hammers. West Ham are allegedly keen to sign Douglas Luiz this winter.
And losing out on the 26-year-old to Forest would be a very painful reminder of where we’re at as a club right now. Luiz left Aston Villa to join Juventus in the summer for a fee worth around £42 million (BBC).
However, he’s had to make do with limited game-time since swapping Villa for Juventus.
He has played just 656 minutes in all competitions for the Italian giants so far this season.
Losing out on Douglas Luiz to Forest would hurt West Ham badly
The Hammers central midfield department is currently desperately lacking when it comes it power, energy, stamina and athleticism.
Luiz has those three attributes in abundance, and he is an exceptionally gifted footballer from a technical perspective. We have lacked a ball-carrier since Declan Rice left to join Arsenal in the summer of 2023.
Luiz would be the perfect signing for the Hammers this winter, what with his physical attributes and technical ability.
He’s not afraid of getting stuck in either, and never shirks his defensive responsibilities. His former Aston Villa teammate John McGinn once described him as ‘world-class’ (Give Me Sport).
If Juventus are in fact willing to let the Brazilian midfielder leave before Monday’s deadline, we really should be all over it.
However, the fact that he wants to join Nottingham Forest instead of West Ham before the January transfer window closes tells us all we need to know about the problems we face right now.
