    West Ham’s forgotten man

    West Ham’s forgotten man

With a number of players contracts expiring in the summer, the club have the option to extend Nathan Trott’s by one year. That decision has not yet been made, and a number of Danish clubs are waiting in the wings should West Ham release the player once earmarked as the future first-choice goal keeper at West Ham.

Nathan Trott was born in Bermuda and originally started out as an outfield player at Valencia Academy, yet transitioned to a goal keeper and upon his return to Bermuda joined North Village Rams. In January 2016, Trott joined West Ham on a recommendation by Clyde Best and signed a new four year contract in March 2019.

In June 2019 Trott moved on a season long to AFC Wimbledon where he played 23 league games for the Dons.

The young custodian then returned to West Ham and finally made his long awaited debut in January 2021 as a substitute in a 4-0 FA Cup won against Doncaster Rovers.

The following season, a loan move materialised to France at AS Nancy Lorraine, where he clocked up over 22 matches for their first team.

Two seasons and 48 appearances have followed at Danish club Vejle, who gained promotion to the SuperLiga in 2023, yet have been involved in a relegation dog fight for most of the season.

Trott has kept six clean sheets and registered an assist in his teams recent 3-2 win against Odense BK to move them one point from safety.

At 25, the player should now be challenging Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski for a first team place.

With interest from clubs in the SuperLiga, a new contract would allow West Ham to command a small transfer fee, yet much will depend on incoming manager Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidens views as to whether the youngster will be part of the twenty-five man squad going into the 2024/25 season.
