West Ham transfer revelation will blow minds across the Premier League

West Ham transfer revelation will blow minds across the Premier League. A West Ham transfer revelation will blow minds across the Premier League and may make some feel differently about the club’s owners.

West Ham are widely regarded to have “won the transfer window” this summer.

Nine signings arrived and that could soon become 10 with the Hammers looking at a free transfer centre-back signing having trialled John Egan this week.

West Ham have committed in excess of £155m on signings this summer presuming Jean-Clair Todibo will hit the five-starts milestone which triggers a £30m permanent deal.

Technical director Tim Steidten has overseen the major squad overhaul with 12 players departing the London Stadium too. Many feel it is perhaps West Ham’s best single transfer window ever.

And it is difficult to argue whether the Hammers have ever had a stronger squad in the Premier League era. Certainly on paper at least. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating of course.

Now it is up to Julen Lopetegui to fuse the new-look squad into a team that not only gets results but plays a better brand of football than under his predecessor David Moyes. West Ham transfer revelation will blow minds

West Ham’s majority owner David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady have been the target of fan ire down the years.

Especially since the controversial move from Upton Park to the London Stadium.

Relations have been tempestuous at times between the terraces and board. That is evident even now with fans justifiably angry over ticket pricing and the scrapping of concessions at West Ham.

The owners’ pledge that leaving the Boleyn Ground for the former Olympic Stadium would take West Ham to the ‘next level’ has often been used as a stick with which to beat them by supporters. The list of grievances supporters have with the board is lengthy down the years.

But there is no denying West Ham have taken big strides since leaving Upton Park. Three consecutive seasons in Europe, a first major trophy in 43 years and the club’s record Premier League points total are proof of that.

Not to mention the second highest average attendances in the UK and top six worldwide. Now there’s even more supporting evidence that the Hammers really are massive.

Hammers have outspent Man City by £47m in recent years

Because a West Ham transfer revelation will blow minds across the Premier League. On Sky Sports over the weekend the Premier League’s highest spenders since the summer of 2022 were revealed. And the results may just shock some Hammers fans as much as many of the club’s rivals.

West Ham United are the fifth biggest spending club on transfers in the last two years. And the Irons even sit above champions Manchester City.

The statistic shows West Ham have spent just under £419m in that time – including this summer. That is £47m more than Man City and only £36m less than their biggest challengers Arsenal who have shelled out £454.4m.

West Ham’s rivals Spurs have splashed out just over £500m as third-biggest spenders while Man United have spent just under £540m. There are no prizes for guessing who has spent the most in the last two years with Chelsea committing a whopping £854.3m to transfers.

Raised ambition coincides with Kretinsky arrival

West Ham’s spending is obviously offset by the £105m sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The raised level of ambition also coincides with the arrival of Daniel Kretinsky as West Ham’s second biggest stakeholder in a £150m deal in November 2021. But the revelation will pose a number of questions.

Given the huge outlay, could it be argued anything less than European qualification would be deemed a failure? Time will tell, but Europe is most certainly the aim for West Ham this season.

Lopetegui has said as much himself and so have a number of the players. Indeed Lopetegui’s contract is built around it with his two-year deal automatically triggering a third if West Ham make Europe of any kind in that time.
