West Ham man’s comments create ‘tension behind the scenes’ – Belief deal made ‘all sides winners’. Niclas Füllkrug’s decision to bite back at Borussia Dortmund following his move to West Ham United this summer has caused some confusion at his former club.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the situation today and how everyone at Dortmund has been left a little perplexed by the striker’s comments.
Füllkrug joined West Ham in a €27m deal this summer, something of a surprise move given he had been Dortmund’s leading goal scorer last season and arguably their best player as they reached the Champions League final.
He’s since made it clear that he knew the club wanted rid of him after they signed Serhou Guirassy, labelling that transfer as a clear sign he wasn’t trusted.
BILD report that while publically those in charge of Dortmund can ‘breathe the comment away in silence’ there was apparently ‘more tension’ behind the scenes.
They explain that Dortmund’s chiefs were desperate to sign a striker who could score 25 goals plus this summer and had never planned long-term with Füllkrug.
A conversation was sought out with the striker, but he had already gotten the message and was thinking of leaving. His relationship with the club had never been a happy one as their game was not tailored to him, and praise was hard to come by from those above him.
That had led to secret frustration for a man who had arrived as a back up but quickly rose to become the top striker at the club.
The XXL deal with West Ham had been seen as one that ‘made all sides winners’ and yet, Füllkrug has now been letting off steam and making his opinion on the matter clear, something which has clearly confused everyone at his previous club.
