West Ham have now emerged as favourites to secure the services of Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku ahead of Saudi clubs, according to Football Transfers.
The media outlet reported on its website on Monday (21 August) that despite proposals from the Middle East, the Belgian’s agents have given encouragement to the Hammers.
It’s understood that the London outfit are in talks with the 30-year-old as they’re eyeing a striker this summer.
Lukaku’s had a topsy-turvy career as he’s joined Manchester United and Chelsea for huge money and has let down both the clubs.
However, whenever his moves have gone under the radar, like at West Brom, Everton and Inter Milan, he’s managed to produce incredible numbers.
There are weaknesses in his game and perhaps Manchester United and Chelsea expect way too much from their striker.
What David Moyes wants is for his striker to be an imposing presence in the 18-yard area and dominate defenders with his physicality.
Lukaku has proven that he’s capable of finding the back of the net and if West Ham sign him, this will be a pretty canny move.
Chelsea are desperate to offload the Belgian so are unlikely to demand a high transfer fee in return for his services.
