West Ham fans will be stunned by Tomas Soucek revelation after 2-1 defeat to Liverpool. Tomas Soucek started on the bench for West Ham United for our Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday. That’s where he remained as well, as West Ham ended up losing the game against Liverpool 2-1.
The Hammers fans are very much split on Tomas Soucek. He’s a hugely popular character, but some believe he doesn’t possess the technical ability to play in central midfield for a Premier League side.
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek definitely doesn’t have the composure in possession needed to execute Graham Potter‘s system.
However, it has to be said, what he lacks in technique, he definitely makes up for with his sheer determination, commitment and passion.
Whether Soucek has a future at the London Stadium or not is still up for debate.
But something cannot be ignored after the 2-1 loss at Anfield.
Stunned Tomas Soucek revelation after West Ham’s defat to Liverpool
The Hammers definitely missed Soucek’s combative nature in the middle of the park at Anfield. A central midfield duo of Carlos Soler and James Ward-Prowse certainly wasn’t what we needed against the Premier League leaders.
And Potter may well regret having not started the 30-year-old Czech Republic international against Liverpool.
Soucek’s importance to this Hammers side cannot be underestimated. West Ham have lost six of the seven games that Tomas Soucek hasn’t started this season!
That’s a quite remarkable stat isn’t it.
Soucek was left out of the starting XI for the Premier League games against Manchester City, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Wolves and Liverpool home and away.
The Hammers have lost six out of the those seven matches, with the only win coming against Manchester United at home.
Tomas Soucek could be Leeds bound
Leeds have made an enquiry to sign Tomas Soucek from West Ham this summer.
And considering the size of the rebuild that is required at the London Stadium, it wouldn’t surprise me if Potter allowed him to leave.
The Hammers unquestionably need more technically proficient footballers in central midfield, but Potter desperately needs to add some pace and power to his ranks as well.
Tomas Soucek may well be sacrificed by West Ham this summer.
But the record we have when he hasn’t played this season should definitely ring some alarm bells. His importance is sometimes overlooked, especially when defending set-pieces.
