West Ham duo haven’t travelled to Serbia due to illness says David Moyes and it looks like Mohammed Kudus is one of them
A mini injury and illness crisis appears to be unfolding at West Ham ahead of a hectic schedule over land and sea.
West Ham are already missing Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen due to knee injuries.
Antonio is out for two to three weeks while Bowen was never going to be risked for the trip to Serbia to face Backa Topola in the Europa League.
West Ham are gearing up to take on Serbian side Backa Topola on Thursday night knowing a positive result will guarantee Europa League knockout football post Christmas.
Duo haven’t travelled to Serbia due to illness says Moyes
It is game two of 10 in a hectic festive schedule between West Ham’s weekend win at Burnley and January 2nd.
A win would put West Ham in the box seat to top Group A. Because even if Freiburg get a win over Olympiacos, the Germans would then have to beat the Hammers by two clear goals at the London Stadium in the final group game to better their head-to-head record.
But it looks like the Irons will have to get the job done without another two first team stars.
Because a West Ham duo haven’t travelled to Serbia due to illness says David Moyes and it looks like Mohammed Kudus is one of them.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday night, Moyes revealed two players have not made the trip due to illness.
And it looks like Kudus is one of them
The Scot was staying tight-lipped on who they were. But it seems one is £38m star boy Kudus, who has not been pictured in training or in any of the galleries of the team boarding the flight to Serbia posted online by the club’s media department.
“Jarrod hasn’t travelled and we have another couple who have some illness who haven’t travelled, but I am not prepared to say who they are,” Moyes said.
Given the absence of Bowen and Antonio, not having Kudus is a huge blow.
Especially as Backa Topola go into the game having smashed Partizan Belgrade 4-0 at the weekend.
It remains to be seen who the other first team star suffering with illness is. But Edson Alvarez has not been pictured in the pre-game galleries either.
All will become clear soon enough. West Ham’s game in Serbia kicks off at 5.45pm on Thursday UK time.
