West Ham block their own technical director from dressing room

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten has been informed he is no longer allowed in the first team dressing room amid the ongoing uncertainty over manager David Moyes’ future.

Soccer4U has learned that following internal talks it has been decided that Steidten will not enter the senior dressing room at the London Stadium or the club’s Rush Green training ground.

While Moyes’ future is under so much uncertainty, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season, and as Steidten actively seeks replacements for the Scot, it has been deemed inappropriate for the German administrator to be in and around the players and staff.

Steidten has a base at the London Stadium and training HQ, but his access to all parts of both facilities is now restricted.

Moyes will hold talks with owner David Sullivan at the end of the season when his future will be decided.

It is looking likely that Moyes will leave given Steidten has started the process of trying to identify his successor.

Steidten spends regular stretches away from London owing to the nature of his role as he attends meetings with figures across the world of football with a view to the club’s recruitment work and, more recently, their search for a Moyes’ potential replacement.

Insiders have suggested that Steidten is only in situ in one of his two offices as little as two days a week as he travels between appointments.

Former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has significant support from figures inside West Ham, while Lille head coach Daniel Fonseca and Ipswich’s highly-rated Kieran McKenna is also on the Hammers’ radar.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, who is open to joining a Premier League side this summer, has held talks with West Ham – but his possible appointment has been played down.

Steidten, who brother Moritz holds the role as head of international relations an scouting for the Hammers, has built a reputation as one of Europe’s leading technical directors and his arrival at West Ham last summer was viewed as a coup for the club. The 45-year-old has previously worked at Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen.

His arrival in 2023 inevitably diminished some of Moyes’ power base at the club, particularly with regards to recruitment.
