West Ham head coach Graham Potter brought James Ward-Prowse back to the London Stadium after he had his loan deal mutually terminated on transfer deadline day. The 30-year-old has made an instant impact back with the Hammers, what with his vast experience and the example he sets with his impressive work-rate.
Since Ward-Prowse returned to West Ham, it has been claimed that the owners have admitted behind closed doors that they made a big mistake by letting him leave. In hindsight, letting him join Nottingham Forest on loan and bringing in the hapless Guido Rodriguez was utter madness.
It was one of the many decisions that eventually led to Julen Lopetegui’s sacking. Now Ward-Prowse and his teammates seem to be on their way to a brighter future with Potter at the helm.

The Hammers star will be a huge asset for us going forward. He seems to suit Potter’s system down to a tee, and he is obviously a very big fan of the Hammers head coach.
Ward-Prowse told WHUFC.com just how much Potter has impressed him already:
“I think a new manager always brings a freshness and a calmness to the group. He’s very clear in terms of what he demands, and training’s been a really enjoyable place to be, so it’s great to be back.“ The difference between Potter and Lopetegui and how the players view the two managers is like night and day.
Whilst the Hammers owners should have parted ways with Lopetegui much sooner, at least they made the correct call in the end. Now we can all start looking towards a bright future with the 49-year-old Englishman at the helm.
Ward-Prowse shares what he thought when Potter got West Ham job. Ward-Prowse has now made an admission about what he first thought when Potter was handed the Hammers gig.
The hard-working midfielder shared how much of a good fit Potter is for West Ham, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“When he (Potter) was appointed manager I think everyone could see that he looked like a good fit, and that it felt right.“ Potter was officially unveiled as the new Hammers head coach on January 9th.
And then Ward-Prowse made his return to the club three-and-a-half weeks after that.
My first takeaway from Ward-Prowse’s comments is that the 30-year-old had already got wind of a potential return to the London Stadium.
And that proves that the owners realised that had made a big error by letting him leave.
The former Southampton man certainly had his critics during his time at the London Stadium, but his work-rate and quality from dead-ball situations can be matched by few. I’m delighted that James Ward-Prowse is back at West Ham, and I expect him to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Graham Potter.
