Wan-Bissaka deal collapse scare settled in late night drama as star finally heads to London

The deal between Man United and West Ham for Aaron Wan-Bissaka suffered a late scare overnight but now the star is finally in his way to London for a medical.

It wouldn’t be a West Ham transfer without some late drama and that has been the case again with the move to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

When the Hammers swooped to pull off a sensational deal for Man United target Jean-Clair Todibo at the weekend, Juventus did everything they could to try and collapse the move.

Todibo was blocked from signing for Manchester United by UEFA.

And he was peppered with phone calls from the Italians after it emerged he had travelled to London with technical director Tim Steidten to sign for West Ham.

Even during his medical, Todibo was receiving calls from Juve trying to change his mind.

But West Ham got the impressive deal done.

The Hammers then turned their full focus to making Manchester United right-back Wan-Bissaka the club’s eighth signing of a superb window.

West Ham and Man United talks hit late problem

    But there was another problem.

It was reported a deal had been agreed and West Ham had a medical booked for Wan-Bissaka at 4pm.

But the likes of Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth cast doubt on the deal as the hours ticked by and it emerged Wan-Bissaka was still in Manchester.

Disagreements between the player and both clubs regarding financial details put the move in jeopardy at the 11th hour.

Sheth even said the Hammers were preparing for the worst and were ready to turn back to alternatives such as Noussair Mazraoui should the deal fall through.

But the Wan-Bissaka deal collapse scare was settled in late night drama as the Man United star finally travels to West Ham for medical.

At 9.35pm, Sheth delivered the news that came as huge relief to the Hammers. And indeed Man United given they are using the money to sign Mazraoui.

“West Ham United medical Monday morning for Aaron wan-Bissaka,” Sheth said.

“Exit terms agreed with Manchester United.

“Agreement now on all aspects of the deal.”

Sheth’s Sky Sports colleague Florian Plettenberg added a further update, saying the clubs are confident there will be no more delays.

“Due to some details, the medical for Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been delayed,” Plettenberg said.

“It is now scheduled to take place on Monday morning.

“Been told the deal is not in danger at this stage. Clubs confident that the transfer will go through as planned – tomorrow (Monday).”

Fabrizio Romano then added his own confirmation of the deal after the delay.

And he says there are no doubts West Ham will be getting Wan-Bissaka with the same to be said for Man United regarding Mazraoui.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka will become West Ham player on Monday, no doubts,” Romano said.

“Deal will happen, same for Mazraoui to Manchester United.”

Wan-Bissaka finally on his way for West Ham medical

As the old saying goes – good things come to those who wait.

It may have been two months in the making but the right-back Julen Lopetegui even wanted at Wolves is on his way.

West Ham’s medicals involve two parts. So Wan-Bissaka’s move may not be officially confirmed until late on Monday or Tuesday.

The deal is said to be worth between £15-18m and Wan-Bissaka will sign a five-year deal with the Hammers with the option of another year.

Rather surprisingly, the deal actually represents a significant profit for Man United on their books.

That’s despite the fact they paid £50m for Wan-Bissaka from Palace in 2019.
