West Ham United loanee Freddie Potts hailed for Wycombe Wanderers wonderstrike
West Ham youngster Freddie Potts scored an outrageous volley from outside the box in a stellar performance for loan club Wycombe Wanderers.
Potts showed brilliant technique to fire a first-time shot past Charlton Athletic keeper Harry Isted from 20 yards after a corner was only half-cleared.
The long-range strike levelled up Saturday’s [23 September] League One contest at The Valley, but Charlton scored two late goals to win 3-1.
The goal was described as “an absolute peach of a volley” by Wycombe’s official Twitter account.
Remarkably, that was the 20-year-old’s first goal at senior level – but surely not the last.
Potts was part of West Ham’s squad for June’s Europa Conference League final victory over Fiorentina, but he has yet to play for the Hammers.
The academy product made the switch to Wycombe a few weeks later with the aim of playing regular football.
Given he has appeared in all eight of Wanderers’ league games, starting six of those, it is fair to say he is getting his wish.
Not only was Potts the only visiting player to get a shot on target against Charlton, nobody registered more key passes than his two [WhoScored].
Potts also won the joint-most headers of any Wanderers player (five) in what was an eye-catching performance, capped by the wondrous volley.
And with that goal against Charlton going viral on social media, word will no doubt soon get to David Moyes.
More of the same and Potts may just be in with a shout of first-team action upon his return to the London Stadium.
