West Ham United: January transfer development surely close after ‘strange’ Said Benrahma actions
Said Benrahma appears to be closing in on a move away from West Ham after a couple of developments in the space of 24 hours.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth reported on Wednesday (10 January) that three French clubs – one being Lyon – are showing an interest in Benrahma.
The Algeria international did little to play down suggestions of a move away with his social media activity on Thursday (11 January).
Benrahma shared a video on his personal Instagram story of him scoring a goal for former club Brentford, where he had a happier time of things.
As Sean Whetstone posted via his West Ham Football account on Twitter [11 January], it was a “strange” development.
Whetstone also pointed out that Benrahma is thought to be in France after being given some time off.
Whether the attacking midfielder’s trip is business related or just a case of unwinding in a place he has spent a lot of his career is unknown.
Benrahma is clearly down the pecking order when David Moyes has a fully-fit squad to choose from.
However, the problem right now is that a number of attacking players are ruled out until at least February, perhaps hindering Benrahma’s exit hopes.
That will surely mean West Ham have no immediate intention of selling the former Nice ace, who still has two-and-a-half years to run on his deal.
And given the weird way football works, it may well be that Benrahma takes this opportunity over the coming weeks and turns his London Stadium career around.
