View: Moyes must sit up and take notice of West Ham loan star who’s tearing it up

West Ham United: David Moyes must take notice of Keenan Appiah-Forson as he continues to dazzle

David Moyes has been blessed with an extremely talented West Ham squad, especially with the attacking likes of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, but there is another aspect that should excite.

The youth set-up at the London Stadium is beginning to blossom, with George Earthy the latest academy star to be awarded his senior debut as the Hammers beat Freiburg 5-0 in the Europa League on Thursday 14 March.

And, although Keenan Appiah-Forson is currently out on loan in the National League with Dagenham & Redbridge, the 22-year-old is continuing to blossom and should be a name to keep tabs on.

Could Keenan Appiah-Forson break into the West Ham United first team?

Moyes will be very aware of Appiah-Forson’s talents, having been the manager to hand the player his senior debut in 2021 during a Europa Conference League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

However, the midfielder was only given the three-minute cameo up until the following season, playing 24 minutes in a 3-0 victory over FCSB in March 2022, replacing fellow loanee Flynn Downes.

Though Appiah-Forson has not featured under Moyes since that moment, he has been sent out on loan to Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League, impressing in 22 total appearances so far.

His loan side certainly enjoys his presence at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, taking to X on Sunday (17 March) to showcase an incredible piece of skill from the youngster as the Daggers defeated Maidenhead United in a 4-1 win.

Appiah-Forson may be known, mainly, for his defensive work at the base of midfield, but he also won the club’s Goal of the Month for December.

David Moyes to promote Appiah-Forson next season

After giving Earthy his senior debut this season, Moyes must be thinking about promoting Appiah-Forson to the first team and giving him the chance to build on his existing two appearances.

Kalvin Phillips has been an underwhelming addition to the Hammers squad, having joined on loan from Manchester City in January, and is the only real back-up for Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek.

James Ward-Prowse has been trusted with the defensive midfield role on multiple occasions this season, but with Appiah-Forson doing so well on loan, it could be time to give the youngster a proper shot.

In other West Ham news, a Real Madrid transfer for Lucas Paqueta has been mooted.
