View: David Moyes’ job could be saved by West Ham news that emerged on Thursday

West Ham United: David Moyes’ job could be saved after new Lucas Paqueta update

The old adage that a week is a long time in politics certainly rings true in football and especially for West Ham.

David Moyes for example is such a curious case when you think about it.

From the outside looking in, the veteran Scot has done an excellent job, not least for the fact he led the Hammers to the Europa Conference League last season.

But from the inside there has always been a rumbling of discontent at the pragmatic, sometimes turgid, football that the former Manchester United boss has employed during his second stint at the London Stadium.

Not many would have argued when reports earlier this season suggested Moyes, whose contract expires at the end of the season, was set to sign a new deal. After a 2-0 win at Arsenal on 28 December the Hammers were sixth in the Premier League and had not long since finished top of their Europa League group.

Fast forward to now, though, and there are suggestions that the West Ham board are getting itchy feet about prolonging Moyes’ stay.

That aforementioned win at the Emirates was their last in any competition and they were battered 6-0 by the Gunners in the reverse fixture last Sunday (11 February), a result that left them eighth in the table.

Lucas Paqueta could feature in West Ham v Nottingham Forest

So Moyes certainly needs a boost and, according to the Evening Standard (15 February, he has now received on after the newspaper reported that Lucas Paqueta is back in training.

The attacking midfielder has not played since limping off with a calf issue in the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Bristol City on 7 January but Moyes will reportedly take a decision on Friday over whether Paqueta can be involved against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (17 February).

They added that he may opt to take a cautious approach to avoid a setback in his recovery but either way Paqueta is seemingly close to returning and providing the shot in the arm West Ham need amid this sorry run of form.

Who knows, it might be something that ultimately ends up saving Moyes’ job in the long run.
