Callum Olusesi could become the latest teenager to make his debut for Tottenham this season at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou is in desperate need of three points in the Premier League against Everton on 19 January, with the Australian expected to be sacked if his side fail to claim victory on Merseyside.
Therefore, the 59-year-old would have no doubt been delighted to reveal [via Football London, 17 January] that one of his injured defenders is in line to return against the Toffees, which boosts Spurs’ chances of victory.
However, as is so often the case in North London, supporters can’t have a bit of good news without some bad news, with Yves Bissouma and Brennan Johnson both listed as doubts for Sunday’s clash.
Therefore, while one player is set to return, with two more or less ruled out, that means Postecoglou is once again left with fewer first-team options than he had available to him in the previous game.
However, while this is bad news for the club, it could be considered a fantastic opportunity for Olusesi.
Callum Olusesi to make Tottenham debut v Everton?
Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Alfie Dorrington – who recently secured a move away from the club – are all teenagers who have made their first-team debuts for Tottenham this season, and Olusesi could be the latest player to join that list.
The 17-year-old has impressed for Spurs’ Under-21s this term – scoring four goals in nine Premier League 2 appearances – and has been named on the bench for nine Premier League matches as a result – including the last six in a row.
He has yet to come off the bench in the competition. However, with Bissouma likely to be sidelined, and Rodrigo Bentancur still unavailable, Postecoglou is very depleted when it comes to his options in midfield.
Therefore, this could be the perfect opportunity for Olusesi to be handed his Spurs and Premier League debut – even if it is just for a couple of minutes toward the end of the contest at Goodison Park.
