Julen Lopetegui opens up on worrying injury after West Ham win – ‘Unfortunately we had a problem’. West Ham United toiled during our win over Bournemouth last night, and Julen Lopetegui addressed the media after the match.
Julen Lopetegui would not have been entirely happy with the performance of his West Ham players, but a win is a win, and now we’re in the third round of the Carabao Cup. The London Stadium was eerily quiet, in spite of Lopetegui naming an incredibly exciting starting lineup featuring five new signings.

The West Ham head coach would have been frustrated with the lack of bravery from his players when it came to passing out from the back, and how his midfielders showed no ambition with their passing.
Lopetegui spoke to reporters after the game and lifted the lid on another concerning matter…

That’s so typical of our luck in cup draws in recent years! Hopefully we can buck the trend of being dumped out against the Premier League big guns this year. Despite the win against Bournemouth, the overall performance from the players last night was really concerning. And it seems like the Hammers have something else to worry about as well.
Lopetegui spoke to WHUFC.com after the game last night, and he had some worrying news about an injury suffered by one of our players.
“Today has been a very demanding match, physically, and unfortunately we had a problem in the warm-up with Cress with his hamstring. We had to make a change, but in the end we overcame all of these difficulties as a team.“
Bad news for West Ham
Now, whilst Aaron Cresswell won’t be a regular starter this season, certainly not in the Premier League, he is the only cover for Emerson Palmieri right now.
If the Italian is forced to spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the 34-year-old will have to come into the side, which is far from ideal. However, if he’s out injured as well, then Aaron Wan-Bissaka will provide cover on the left, leaving Vladimir Coufal as our only right-back.
I guess we just have to hope that Emerson and Wan-Bissaka remain fit for the remainder of the season. That sentence in itself highlights how weak we are in the left and right full-back departments.
