‘Unfortunately for them’: Alan Shearer predicts who’ll triumph between Tottenham and Brentford today

Tottenham Hotspur will hope to follow up their last-gasp League Cup victory over Coventry City in midweek by besting Brentford on Saturday.

Spurs were on course to suffer a humiliating defeat to the Championship side on Wednesday, only for Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson to rescue the visitors with late goals.

On Saturday, Tottenham will get the opportunity to make amends for their North London derby defeat against another London side.

Brentford have had a solid season so far, giving Manchester City a scare last week and only losing to Pep Guardiola’s side and Liverpool thus far.

Pre-match pundit predictions have been coming in thick and fast, and Alan Shearer has now shared his thoughts on who he thinks will win this one.

Alan Shearer backs Tottenham to beat Brentford

Shearer, writing in Metro, believes Brentford will make life hard for Tottenham, but with Yoane Wissa injured, Spurs should have enough to get over the line.

“I was hugely impressed with Brentford against Man City, particularly in the first 40 minutes and again they’ll make it difficult for Spurs here,” wrote Shearer.

“I really like Thomas Frank as a manager. I was lucky enough to spend some time with him in the summer at the Euros and I was really impressed with the way he spoke and his ideas. He’s an impressive guy and doing a great job at Brentford.

“Unfortunately for them, it looks as if Wissa is going to be injured for a while which is a big blow, so I’m going to go for a Spurs win.”

    Tottenham v Brentford team news

Postecoglou told the Tottenham media team on Friday that Wilson Odobert has suffered a hamstring injury and could be out for a while.

Although Spurs must wait for his injury to settle down before they can get more information, the manager said he’d “definitely be out for the next period”.

Meanwhile, Richarlison is expected to be out long-term, as he is nursing a training-ground injury picked up at the start of September.

Yves Bissouma and Timo Werner have trained and should be available, said the Tottenham boss.

As for the Bees, Thomas Frank said there are no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Spurs, as per Sam Tabuteau.

Paris Maghoma will join full session training on Monday, while Rico Henry will return to part-time training on the same day.

As for Mathias Jensen, Frank admitted he’s “a little more in doubt” with regards to when he’ll be back.
