Tottenham’s chances of acquiring a center back are not looking good.

FootMercato have claimed that rumoured Tottenham target Tosin Adarabioyo is now close to completing a switch to Monaco.

A couple of days ago, we relayed a report from Football London which claimed that Spurs are expected to launch their opening offer for Adarabioyo this week. The outlet claimed that the Fulham man was attracting interest from the likes of Monaco, which is why the Lilywhites are keen to move swiftly to secure his services.

The report added that the 25-year-old is keen on making a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Moncao advancing on a deal to beat Spurs to Tosin

However, Foot Mercato have now suggested that it is Monaco who are making strides towards signing Adarabioyo.

It is explained that the Ligue 1 club had identified the Fulham star as their top priority to replace Chelsea-bound Axel Disasi and have already reached an agreement with the centre-back on personal terms. It is alleged that despite facing competition from Spurs, Monaco’s negotiations with Fulham are now progressing ‘very well’, with the two clubs now ‘close’ to reaching an agreement.

Adarabioyo would undoubtedly prefer a move to Spurs if the North London club showed concrete interest.

If it is true that the 25-year-old has given the green light for a move to Monaco instead, that suggests that the Lilywhites might be targeting other centre-backs, potentially both Van de Ven and Tapsoba.

Tottenham have already made five summer signings for new boss Ange Postecoglou and there is still cautious optimism that Harry Kane could yet stay put this season. Tottenham are in advanced talks to land highly-rated 19-year-old forward Alejo Veliz from Argentinian side Rosario Central. Daniel Levy and the Spurs recruitment team are seeking to shake off fierce competition from Italy where AC Milan, Lazio and Napoli have been hot in pursuit of the teenage gem, who is quickly emerging as one of the best prospects in South America.

Veliz first broke into Rosario’s first team back in the 2021 campaign but he has quickly established himself as an integral player in attack for his current employers.

He netted eight times in 32 Argentine Primera Division matches last season and has since bettered that total with 11 goals in 23 outings this term.

As per multiple reports from Europe and South America, Spurs are now pressing to conclude a deal imminently – even if they may endure a wait to welcome Veliz to north London. That’s because although Rosario are willing to strike an agreement now, they want to keep their highly-coveted gem for the remainder of the season.
