Tottenham injury update: Brennan Johnson, Rodrigo Bentancur and Bryan Gil latest news and return dates

Tottenham are hoping for more good news this week on the injury front.

Spurs await updates on Brennan Johnson’s fitness after he sat out the dramatic win over Liverpool, along with a number of his teammates.

Rodrigo Bentancur is a long-term absentee slowly working his way back into contention, as is Ryan Sessegnon.

Ivan Perisic will not return for some time whereas Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso should be back in the coming weeks. There were more immediate positives on the weekend as James Maddison and Heung-min Son were fit to play after doubts.

    Brennan Johnson

There is hope that Johnson will be available to return against Luton on the weekend after Ange Postecoglou played down his recent absence.

The striker missed the weekend win after coming off an hour into the previous game, at Arsenal, with a hamstring injury.

“It’s nothing too serious but he won’t be right for this week,” said Postecoglou ahead of the Liverpool game.

    Rodrigo Bentancur

Recent hype around Bentancur’s potentially imminent return has been played down by Spurs, who are careful not to rush his comeback from a serious knee issue.

“There’s no change,” said the coach. “All Rodrigo is doing at the moment is warm-ups with the teams so he’s not doing it on his own, but he’s not participated in any sort of meaningful training yet.”

November is still being eyed as his return date.

    Bryan Gil

After being ruled out of the start of the season with a groin injury that required surgery, Gil is now reportedly nearing a return to action.

The Spanish winger is said to be back in training and soon available for selection.

    Ivan Perisic

Tottenham confirmed last week that Perisic had undergone an operation on a serious injury suffered to his ACL.

The Croatian was pictured on crutches after the procedure in Austria ahead of a long road to recovery, tipped to last around six months.

    Ryan Sessegnon

The left-back has taken a step forward in his recovery from a hamstring issue by restarting light training.

It is still expected that he is a number of weeks away from being involved in the playing squad, but given Perisic’s absence he will be warmly welcomed back when fit.

    Giovani Lo Celso

After being omitted from Argentina’s international squad for their matches last month, Lo Celso has been out with a hamstring injury.

With his absence now lasting over a month, reports indicate at least another couple of weeks on the sidelines for the midfielder.
