Tottenham in talks with A-star player over new deal

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to continue their impressive start to the new Premier League season when they face rivals Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side go into the game unbeaten in the league so far this season, having won four times and drawn once.

The Lilywhites currently sit second in the table behind reigning champions Manchester City, while the Gunners occupy fourth spot but have an identical record so far.

The match promises to be an entertaining one, but in the meantime it appears that Spurs are working hard to tie down one of their most important players.

As per 90min, the North London outfit are in talks with club captain Son Heung-Min over a new contract.

The 31-year-old became captain of Spurs at the start of the current season and has netted three times in five league games so far this term.

Son could soon commit his long-term future to Spurs

The South Korea international’s current contract is set to expire in less than two years, though, and those in charge of the club are therefore keen to agree an extension.

It is also claimed that Spurs are confident of finalising an extension by Christmas, however they could reach an agreement within weeks if negotiations go well.

Son joined Tottenham from German club Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015 and has since made 378 appearances for the Lilywhites across all competitions, scoring 148 goals and providing 80 assists.

The South Korean currently sits sixth on Spurs’ list of all-time top scorers, and is also 30th on the Premier League list with 106 goals.

Spurs were reportedly keen to assess Son’s relationship with new boss Postecoglou before committing to negotiations, but they have since entered into talks after seeing the strong working relationship that the pair have developed.
