Tottenham ‘considering’ deal for Crystal Palace star with only 13 appearances this season

Tottenham could turn to a London rival as they look to add depth to their midfield this summer. It has been a turbulent season for the North London club, who find themselves in the bottom half having been ravaged by injuries all season long.

The injuries are now finally beginning to clear up, and Ange Postecoglou is under pressure to deliver results without having the excuse of having his hands tied by absences.

Spurs did move to add some further depth in the winter window, signing Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, but the summer will surely bring more signings and further depth given what has happened this season.

Midfield is said to be one of the areas that Spurs want to add more options to, and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is said to be of interest, according to Football Insider. The holding midfielder has struggled with injury this season, but he is not getting back to full fitness, and he is hoping to have a similar impact to last season, when he impressed mightily on the back of his move from Blackburn Rovers. Wharton has only made 13 appearances across all competitions so far this term.

Wharton is under a long-term contract at Palace, until 2029, and the report claims that he is not a player Palace would consider selling unless they received an offer that was ‘too good to refuse’. But Spurs are said to be considering a move, while Manchester City were also linked earlier in the week.

Palace are also much less likely to sell based on the fact there will already be plenty of interest in Marc Guehi, Jean-Philippe Mateta and potentially Eberechi Eze this summer.

In the meantime, Palace will be delighted to get Wharton back, and Oliver Glasner has said as much this week, saying in his pre-match press conference after Wharton had played in the FA Cup: “It was surprising he could play 60 minutes. Even then he said, ‘oh, come on, I’d like to play more!’

“He did well. He trained the whole week – no reaction on the load – and he had a good week again. I think he’s ready and now, with the other players back, it’s maybe tough – but it’s the best situation you can have as manager. We have him, Will Hughes and Jeff Lerma in midfield. We have several options in our front three, the same as our wing-backs. We have a good situation, of course, and we want to keep this for the next three months.”
