‘Top drawer’ – Alan Pardew gushes over West Ham ace after what he did v Liverpool

Alan Pardew gushes over ‘top drawer’ Michail Antonio in West Ham United draw v Liverpool. Pardew has lauded Michail Antonio after scoring a “top drawer” equaliser as West Ham secured a 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Saturday (27 April).

Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring at the London Stadium, though Andy Robertson would equalise for the Reds before a mix-up in the Hammers penalty area resulted in an Alphonse Areola own goal.

Despite the setback, one of David Moyes’ most-trusted men rose highest in the Liverpool box, heading home a delicate Bowen cross beyond Alisson to get West Ham back on level terms.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Sunday (28 April, 8:28pm), Pardew said of Antonio: “What a goal. His feet, to get on the back of the defender, get that leap and the direction on the header… Top drawer – well done, fella.”

Despite his injury worries this season, at the age of 34, Antonio continues to be a trusted presence at the London Stadium and is a loved figure by the fanbase.

After his spectacular header to punish Jurgen Klopp’s Reds on Saturday, it is easy to see why he is a fan favourite at the club, scoring his third goal in as many matches.

Though with just seven goals in all competitions this season, the Hammers will be looking to add a much more prolific striker to the squad to accompany Mohammed Kudus, Bowen, and Lucas Paqueta in attack, if the latter is still at the club come next season.

Michail Antonio powers West Ham back on level terms with a great header 😤

Antonio would still be a useful replacement from the bench if he can remain fit, though that could be a worry in the next campaign, having missed several matches this term due to injury.

Of course, Bowen can occupy the striker role when asked to. However, his natural position is out on the wing, and a new striker signing would help keep him out there, doing what he does best.
