West Ham legend Tony Cottee has made a shocking admission about what he did at Liverpool and has slammed David Moyes.
Some of West Ham’s players were feeling ill and fatigued ahead of the trip to face Liverpool.
But it was the Hammers fans who were left sick and tired as they watched another drubbing on the road with Liverpool putting them to the sword 5-1.
It follows the 5-0 shocker at Fulham in West Ham’s last away game a couple of weeks ago.
As good as Liverpool were, West Ham were never at the races. And many supporters feel David Moyes waved the white flag at Anfield with his team selection and approach as he rested several key players.
That’s despite West Ham playing for the chance to be in a semi-final where a woeful Chelsea, beatable Fulham and Championship Middlesbrough were the only sides left.
One man who knows all about playing for West Ham and on Merseyside is Tony Cottee.
The former Hammers and Everton goalscoring hero was in the away end with 6k other West Ham fans to watch them battered by Liverpool at Anfield.
Now West Ham legend Cottee has made a shocking admission about what he did at Liverpool and has slammed Moyes.
Because Cottee says he was so disgusted by what he saw he left a West Ham game early for the first time. The former striker also criticised Moyes’ team selection and substitutions.
“I never leave early but I did today!” Cottee said on X.
“Poor team selection, poor subs, I feel so sorry for the 6,000 fans who travelled up.”
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher shared Cottee’s sentiment, describing West Ham’s performance as ‘criminal and embarrassing’.
Cottee’s words will no doubt strike a chord with West Ham fans.
Especially those who made the long trip north knowing there were no trains to get home.
They wanted to see their strongest team selected and the manager to go for it in what was a one off game.
But what was served up was utterly pathetic and the scoreline could have been much worse.
