West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten has been ‘pushing’ to sign Mavopranos and is set to land his man.
David Moyes wanted to bring in Harry Maguire but a move from Manchester United broke down this past week.Steidten is now landing the defender he wants, with Mavropanos on the verge of a return to London.
Former Bayer Leverkusen man Steidten will have seen plenty of Mavropanos in the Bundesliga and his move to West Ham is now imminent.
Mavopranos hails from Athens and came up in the ranks with Greek side Apollon Smyrnis.
PAS Giannina pounced to sign Mavropanos as a teenager and three goals in 20 games there saw him earn major interest. Arsenal swooped in to sign Mavropanos, paying just £1.8million in January 2018 as Sven Mislintat thought he had landed a gem.
First-team minutes didn’t really come with Arsenal though as Mavropanos played just eight times for the Gunners. A loan spell to Nurnberg didn’t help and Mislintat then struck to sign Mavropanos on loan for two years, taking him to Stuttgart.
The deal was turned permanent as Stuttgart paid just £3million last summer, meaning they’re now raking in major profit.
The 25-year-old will be desperate to finally prove himself in the Premier League and West Ham will now believe that he can become a key part of their back line.
