‘The only name that’s been mentioned to me is…’ – Journo shares who could be next West Ham boss

Kieran Gill has revealed that the only name he’s been told could replace David Moyes at West Ham is Julen Lopetegui.

Responding to questions in his Q&A on the Daily Mail website on Wednesday (6 December, 01:21pm), the journalist said the Spaniard “wants to return to the Premier League” after leaving Wolves in August.

But he added that the picture could “totally change” closer to the end of the season as managers who are available now may not be in the summer.

Asked who could replace Moyes if he does leave the Hammers, Gill said: “It’s too early to say. Managers who are available now may not be in the summer.

“The only name that’s been mentioned to me is Julen Lopetegui, who we know wants to return to the Premier League. But that picture could totally change closer to the end of the season.”

This would be an appointment that would probably receive a fairly mixed reception from the West Ham fans as many would see it as quite uninspiring.

The Spaniard did a decent job at Wolves last season, having guided them to Premier League safety after taking over with the club in the relegation zone.

The 57-year-old left the West Midlands club just days before the start of this campaign after their financial situation restricted what he could do in the transfer market.

He does, however, boast a pretty impressive CV after previously managing Spain and Real Madrid, while also claiming the Europa League trophy with Sevilla in 2020.

But some may argue that his career could be on its way down and that he is only a few years younger than the 60-year-old Moyes, with many Irons fans wanting a younger manager to take over at the London Stadium.
