West Ham statement on Steidten exit leaves talkSPORT hosts in hysterics. Paul Hawksbee and Andy Jacobs were left in hysterics after they read Tim Steidten’s West Ham United exit statement live on talkSPORT.
The Hammers technical director was relieved of his duties recently with Graham Potter choosing to bring in Kyle Macaulay to lead the recruitment department. Speaking live on talkSPORT (5 February, 14:09pm), Hawksbee and Jacobs shared their thoughts on the Hammers’ statement. “I did love the West Ham statement about the departing sporting director Tim Steidten,” Jacobs said.
Hawksbee then asked: “Have they thanked him for his services?”
Jacobs then said: “Well just about, ‘West Ham United can confirm that Tim Steidten will be leaving the club, Tim Steidten has been instrumental in our recruitment efforts’ that’s daming with faint praise isn’t it, ‘with the arrival of our new head coach Graham Potter, he has brought in his own head of recruitment and it’s time for Tim to pursue new opportunities’.”
Hawksbee then added: “It is yeah and PS, shut the door on your way out.”
Tim Steidten’s time at West Ham United was numbered
After the Hammers’ summer arrivals failed to meet the expectations they were set, it was clear that Steidten was sitting on a ticking time bomb regarding when his stay at the London Stadium would come to an end. Especially when Julen Lopetegui was sacked, that’s when things likely started to get real for the German.
While some of his additions such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Crysencio Summerville may have had a decent impact on the Hammers’ form this season, Niclas Fullkrug, perhaps West Ham’s most-needed signing has flopped massively.
The former Borussia Dortmund talisman has been sidelined due to injury for most of the campaign and it feels like Evan Ferguson is now their number one. So, if David Sullivan kept Steidten on, he’d have likely been making a massive mistake.
Which is why it’s no surprise that as one of Potter’s first acts as the manager of the London Stadium outfit, he chose to bring in his own man who he knows can unearth gems from the middle of nowhere.
