Suddenly, West Ham’s perennial substitute is a young man in demand

Suddenly, West Ham’s perennial substitute is a young man in demand. The trouble with transfer windows is that they don’t all close (‘slam’ – how I hate that expression) on the same day. The English Premier League closed on Monday, the Dutch window 24 hours later and the Brazilian window not until – sigh – 28th February.

So one West Ham player continues to be linked with a loan away, just this morning with Brazilian club Botofago being reported as the prime suspects to lure him away.

However in the last few days, West Ham’s attitude towards young Luis Guilherme appears to have softened as the young man showed a clean pair of heels to half the Chelsea side on Monday night.

News reported today in sportwitness.co.uk this morning that Botofago are seeking to try and sign Guilherme is likely to meet the same response that Feyenoord received earlier this week.

The report claims: “Botafogo have emerged as another contender for West Ham United’s Luis Guilherme.” West Ham’s high ranking source told us just on Tuesday that the club: “Have decided to keep him, despite bids, as we really thought last night [against Chelsea] was his best performance.”

In addition of course the news of Crysencio Summerville’s serious hamstring injury means there will be opportunities for Guilherme at London Stadium unlike he experienced under Julen Lopetegui in the first half of the season: Lopetegui clearly didn’t rate the youngster (probably since he was a Steidten signing) and let it be known that Guilherme wasn’t looking good in training.

So, from falling in between the u21’s and the full squad and looking every inch Tim Steidten’s folly, Luis Guilherme is now very much a young man in demand both at London Stadium, in Europe and in Brazil. Look forward to seeing him develop and hopefully break into the senior squad over the coming weeks.
