Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were blown away by Tomas Soucek’s “unbelievable” winner for West Ham United at Goodison Park.
David Moyes led his Hammers to victory against his former side as the East London outfit scored two goals in stoppage time to record a 3-1 victory over Everton on Saturday 2 March.
Kurt Zouma had equalised for the visitors after Beto’s opener for the hosts, and it was Soucek who put West Ham ahead in the 91st minute, with Shearer, Lineker and Jermaine Jenas all left stunned by the midfielder’s strike while in discussion on BBC Match of the Day (2 March).
Lineker stated, “Great win for the Hammers and what a spectacular winner, I know there were two goals in injury time but (Tomas) Soucek’s was a bit special.
Jenas agreed, adding, “It was, and the interesting thing about Soucek is it is the latter stages of the game and you’re thinking right he is going to get his head on this and he has to readjust his body, get a great touch and that finish is unreal.
Shearer rounded off the conversation, saying “Brilliant, the bend on it is unbelievable, sweet strike.”
Tomas Soucek is the hero once again for West Ham and David Moyes
Soucek has scored many goals over the years since arriving at the London Stadium, but he would do well to find a strike better than his one against the Toffees.
Not only was the finish fantastic, but the context of the goal was also important. To produce that kind of quality away from home in the dying moments of a Premier League game to win the match is special.
Soucek will remember that strike for a long time, and for West Ham, it was a huge moment as they continue to turn a corner and build some momentum.
After recording their first win in nine matches with a 4-2 home victory over Brentford on Monday 26 February, this win at Everton saw them record back-to-back victories for the first time since late December.
Moyes has come under intense pressure in recent weeks, but these two wins will offer him some breathing room, and give the Hammes some much-needed momentum heading into their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 clash with Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.
