David Moyes is coming under increasing pressure as West Ham United manager and the chances are that the Scot will leave at the end of the season – so how replaces the Hammers boss in the summer?
Despite guiding West Ham to the quarter-finals in Europe in three season in a row at least, and of course winning last season’s Europa Conference League – some sections of fans are fed up of his style of play.
While they gave a valiant effort in their quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen, they were knocked out 3-1 on aggregate by the German champions. Then, a dismal 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
Reports state that it is likely Moyes will be walking at the end of the season, and it is claimed that Thomas Tuchel will be the man to come in and replace him. Joe Cole thinks he will be leaving, despite his praise.
Julen Lopetegui reportedly wants West Ham job this summer
Another manager that has been linked with a move is that of former Real Madrid and Spain manager Julen Lopetegui. The Spaniard left Wolves at the start of the season and was replaced by Gary O’Neil.
He remains out of work and has been linked with Manchester United of late. But now, Lopetegui could be on his way to West Ham if the gig becomes available – with Alex Crook delivering an update on the role.
TalkSPORT’s Crook reported on Twitter that the 57-year-old manager would be interested in taking the role and West Ham are aware he would be keen, if they decide to axe Moyes – or Moyes decides to go.
What Craig Dawson has said about West Ham target Lopetegui
Of course, big Craig Dawson worked with Lopetegui at Wolves – with Dawson joining The Midlands side under Lopetegui’s spell. Since, centre-back Dawson has integrated himself as a mainstay at Molineux.
Facing Lopetegui in the Europa League, he told Wolves’ website after joining: “It was a tough game, but one thing that stood out most was the coach. He stood right on the sideline and felt like another player.
“You could feel his passion, his love for the game there, and that was something he mentioned to me when I signed. You could really feel his passion for the game and hopefully we can see that here.”
Perhaps, West Ham fans will get to see that passion and love for the game if he joins the Hammers in the summer. But right now, Moyes will be targeting another finish in Europe before the end of the campaign.
