‘Sorry to be that guy’: Alasdair Gold has some more bad news for Tottenham fans this weekend

Tottenham fans have got used to the bad news in recent weeks as a spate of injuries threaten to ruin their season.

Ange Postecoglou has had to deal with major injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven in recent weeks, while others such as Richarlison are also ruled out. Couple that with two defeats on the bounce and a suspension for Cristian Romero, and it’s been a miserable few weeks.

However, defender Van de Ven appeared to get some Tottenham fans’ hopes up earlier as he posted to Instagram with the egg-timer emoji to suggest he was coming back sooner.

But taking to social media via X, Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold has put a dampener on things by saying that as far as he knows, nothing has changed with the Dutchman.

It seems, then, that Tottenham fans won’t be seeing Van de Ven until the new year, as Postecoglou first suggested.

Tottenham need Van de Ven back quickly

There is no doubt that the injury to Van de Ven is a huge problem for Spurs at the moment.

His pace and ability to keep up with Premier League defenders in Spurs’ high-line defence has been exactly what Ange has needed.

Of course, the club might well move for a new defender in January, with Lloyd Kelly among the options being considered by Tottenham.

However, it’s imperative they get Van de Ven back ASAP. Yes, there is an element of being careful given the nature of the injury. But he is just so vital to Spurs, and with Romero a walking card, he becomes even more important.

His Insta post today was enough to get some Spurs fans excited but it very much seems that nothing has changed as yet.
