Sky Sports pundit laughs at suggestion West Ham United are interested in Bayer Leverkusen ace Victor Boniface
Sky Sports pundit Dougie Critchley has laughed at the suggestion that West Ham are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
TEAMtalk reported on Friday (10 November) that the Irons may attempt to sign one of Europe’s hottest prospects at the end of the season.
However, Boniface is also expected to be on the radar of numerous heavyweight clubs across the continent given his form for Leverkusen.
Replying to the speculation on his personal Twitter page (11 November), Critchley said: “I’m sorry guys you missed the boat…
“After 10 goals and 6 assists in 14 League and Europa League games, spearheading the most exciting team in Europe…
“Victor Boniface is more likely to join Real Madrid than West Ham!”
No chance
It would be easy to go in on Critchley and put forward a case as to why United would be the logical next step for Boniface, but he does have a point.
If West Ham had any hope of signing the Nigerian, it was in the summer window prior to his move from Union Saint-Gilloise to Bayer Leverkusen.
Since then, Boniface has scored 11 goals and assisted a further six in just 15 appearances for his new club in all competitions.
Boniface is one of the most in-form players anywhere right now and will therefore attract attention from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona among others.
That is not even accounting for the fact Leverkusen have no reason to sell, so his valuation could easily be in the nine-figure region right now.
Boniface would undoubtedly provide the final piece to West Ham’s attacking jigsaw, but this is a rumour that seems to be well wide of the mark.
