Michail Antonio shocked after hearing who West Ham could sign from Tottenham
West Ham forward Michail Antonio has expressed his surprise at hearing the club being linked to Tottenham’s Eric Dier.
Dier is set to depart Spurs after falling well down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou. A move to Bayern Munich is being touted for Dier, as the German club weigh up their options.
However, Dier has also been suggested as a player West Ham could sign. David Moyes is looking to strengthen the pack in January and Dier is one name being touted.
And speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Hammers forward Antonio expressed his surprise at the news.
Speaking alongside Callum Wilson on the podcast, Antonio admitted his surprise and suggested he’d not heard anything this month about transfers.
“I have just heard about it now, when you said it to me. So I can’t tell you a single thing, honestly. This is the first year where I have not paid any attention to Twitter or anything, I have not paid attention to which players are coming in. This morning I went to training and it wasn’t until after training I realised there wasn’t a player training, there was a guy off doing his medical. I was like oh he’s going. It’s one of those things where things just happen and the players don’t have a clue what’s happening, especially at West Ham where a lot of the time I’m very surprised as normally things get leaked before it happens 95% of the time, it’s the first quiet window I’ve had in nine years I’ve had at West Ham,” Antonio said.
Hammers fans wouldn’t want Dier
Not to speak for all of them, but surely West Ham need to be looking elsewhere rather than a player who is not cutting the mustard at one of their London rivals?
A move abroad seems the logical step for Eric Dier now and move over London to West Ham would just bring needless pressure.
Hammers fans would be waiting on him making a first mistake and you get the impression if he didn’t do well from the outset, it could be a nightmare for him.
West Ham can also do better than this. They don’t need Eric Dier right now and there are other players they can surely focus on.
