Senior West Ham stars have turned on the club’s owners over the David Moyes situation claims a new report overnight.
It was just over one week ago that the most senior source inside West Ham told Hammers News David Moyes will be offered an extension to his West Ham contract.
We were informed that the Scot would be signing a new deal ‘subject to terms’.
But following West Ham’s biggest home league defeat for 61 years, the landscape has changed.
Moyes is once again under pressure to stay in the Hammers hotseat.
Pressure intensifies on Moyes
And there have even been claims David Sullivan and co have effectively given him four games to save his job.
West Ham were flying at the turn of the year.
But no wins in seven since the start of 2024 have seen dark clouds gather over the London Stadium.
Injuries and player absence have played a part. However the inexcusable nature of collapses against Man United and Arsenal have piled pressure on Moyes.
Now senior West Ham stars have turned on the owners over the Moyes situation claims a new report.
That’s according to Football Insider overnight.
Their report claims Hammers players have let it be known to the owners behind the scenes that uncertainty over Moyes’ future is not helping performances.
“Senior West Ham stars are keen to learn who their manager will be in the long term, sources have told Football Insider,” the report states.
“It is believed the West Ham players want a final decision to be made in due course with the uncertainty not helping performances or results…
“A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the relationship between Moyes and the vast majority of his senior squad is good.”
Genuine distraction or convenient excuse?
Yesterday a Telegraph journalist spoke out about the Moyes situation.
He labelled what he has heard coming out of the club as ‘ridiculous’.
It seems a touch far-fetched that performance levels could be impacted by Moyes’ situation at this stage of the season.
Cynics might suggest it is a rather convenient excuse.
Can it really be suggested that the likes of Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma were so distracted by thoughts of Moyes’ contract they could barely move off the spot in the last couple of games.
Maybe their minds were so fixated on whether their manager would be putting pen to paper that they forgot the basic principles of defending such as showing players onto their weaker foot?
Give most players and inch and they’ll take a mile. Especially when it comes to excusing under performance.
It’s either a complete cop-out or a very questionable claim.
The report also states the owners are listening to the senior stars and will sort Moyes’ future imminently.
That suggests – as we told you a week ago – the Scot will be signing a new deal.
