Saudi made a late move to sign Totteham attacker after Salah rejection but “ran out of time”

Tottenham attacker Richarlison was the ‘subject of late interest’ from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad on deadline day.

That is according to the latest report by The Telegraph which claims that the Saudis turned their attention to the Brazilian after they saw their £150m bid for Liverpool superstar Mo Salah rejected by Liverpool.

They identified Richarlison as an alternative but were working against the clock to secure his signing before the transfer window shut.

They engaged in ‘talks through intermediaries’ but ‘ran out of time’ and could not agree a deal before the window shut.

Spurs may have considered selling him if they had received a tempting offer from the Saudi club.

Richarlison joined Spurs last summer for £60m but has failed to live up to the expectations. He was poor last season scoring only 1 league goal and 3 goals in all competitions.

And this season despite the improvement in Tottenham as a team and the more attacking style of play under Ange Postecoglou, he has failed to make an impact.

Son was given the nod as the main striker upfront against Burnley in their last league game who went on to score a hat-trick and produce a man of the match performance.

With new signing Manor Solomon in great form on the left wing and Dejan Kulusevski being a menace on the right, as well as the arrival of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest, Richarlison might have to accept being a squad player this season.

His form seems to have affected his performance for Brazil as well. He was pictured in tears as he he was substituted after missing a chance against Bolivia.

There is no denying his talent which he has proved at Watford and Everton as well for Brazil. However, he is going through a rough period in his career and perhaps a move away might have helped him regain his form
