Richard Keys slams Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham decision in Daniel Levy warning

beIN SPORTS presenter Richard Keys has praised Ange Postecoglou but has suggested the Tottenham Hotspur boss could be made to regret one decision. Ange Postecoglou has been told he could be made to regret one of his early decisions as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Spurs have made a dream start to the new season, picking up ten points from 12 available, far surpassing outside expectations after missing out on European football and selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. Tottenham’s emphatic win over Burnley was the epitome of the front-footed approach that Spurs have adopted, leading to a sense of optimism around the club.

Son Heung-min bagged a hat-trick at Turf Moor as the captain starred in a central role. His goals were wedged between Cristian Romero lashing the ball into the top corner and an inch-perfect finish from James Maddison.

However, Postecoglou has already been handed his first defeat as manager when the club were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Fulham on penalties, last month. beIN SPORTS presenter Richard Keys has suggested that Postecoglou’s decision to rotate his side for the cup game would have angered the Spurs’ hierarchy, given the club’s well-documented trophy drought

“Spurs purred at Burnley. How Postecoglou must be regretting sending a reserve team out to play against Fulham in the League Cup,” the former Sky Sports host wrote in his blog. “When you’ve had so many barren years without a trophy it’s a scandal to toss off a chance to win one. So few PL teams take the competition seriously and we know why, but it’s almost a gimme if you do.

“He got away with it because the League form has been so good, but I’d be furious if I was Daniel Levy. It was a poor call by Postecoglou.”

The counter-argument would be that without a European campaign, Postecoglou’s opportunities to hand game time to his fringe players are limited. The FA Cup will present another chance for silverware, while Spurs will hope to make the most of their less-congested fixture list to make an impact in the Premier League.
