Report: West Ham trying to hijack Premier League club’s deal to sign 6ft 8in giant at the last minute

West Ham United director of football Tim Steidten clearly has an obsession with the Brazilian market this summer.

Tim Steidten is seemingly forgoing sleep this summer, as he searches for players to bolster the squad new West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui has at his disposal.

West Ham appear to be close to signing Palmeiras winger Luis Guilherme, whilst moves for Samba Boys Vitao and Rwan Seco are reportedly in the pipeline.

Lopetegui needs to strengthen his squad at the London Stadium in pretty much every single position this summer.

And it seems like the Spaniard, along with Steidten, has identified one position in particular that requires urgent attention.

A free transfer swoop for Wes Foderingham was mooted recently, but West Ham have allegedly now switched their attention elsewhere.

Brazilian football journalist Andre Hernan has explained on UOL that the Hammers have come in with a late attempt to hijack Nottingham Forest’s £3.4 million move to sign Corinthians goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.

That makes a nice change. At least it’s us looking to wreck someone else’s summer plan, rather than the other way around!

Who is Carlos Miguel and what could he bring to West Ham

Born in Rio de Janeiro in October 1998, the 25-year-old began his youth career with Flamengo before moving on to Internacional and then Corinthians back in 2021.

However, he has only played 23 senior games for Corinthians, and has conceded only 10 goals, whilst keeping 14 clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

Standing at 6ft 8in tall, Miguel is an absolute giant of a man, and makes the goal look very small when standing between the sticks!

He is obviously very commanding in the air, but his ability to get down low to save shots can be lacking at times.

Carlos Miguel is somewhat of an unknown quantity though, due to his lack of first-team action, so it’s unclear what he would really be able to bring to West Ham, and why he’s being chased by Tim Steidten.

However, if the German has spotted something he likes about the Corinthians stopper, then we will just have to trust his opinion won’t we, until we’re given a reason to think otherwise.

One thing’s for sure – the Hammers’ risk will be limited if we do sign him, considering the fact that the fee needed is just £3.4 million – peanuts in this day and age.

West Ham’s Brazilian mission looks set to roll on this summer with a late swoop for Carlos Miguel, and if we do sign him it looks like it may well be the end for Lukasz Fabianski at the London Stadium.
