West Ham are believed to be in the race for the signature of Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer, with the addition of a new centre-forward an absolute necessity
It was actually claimed last month that the 26-year-old former Chelsea forward could be the man to lead the line at the London Stadium under Julen Lopetegui.
Michail Antonio has been superb for the Hammers over the past nine years, but he’s just not the player he once was any more.
Lopetegui simply has to sign a proven striker, if he is to oversee some genuine progress at the London Stadium over the next few years.
And Abraham could well be the man tasked with spearheading West Ham’s attack next season and beyond…

The London-born hitman has proven throughout his career that he’s capable of producing the goods consistently at the very highest level.
However, he could be set for another change this summer, with Roma looking to cash in.
It’s not as straightforward as it might seem though…

Facing competition from two Premier League sides is obviously far from ideal, but there is some good news.
The 26-year-old Roma hitman will cost just £25 million now, after it was previously claimed that the Serie A side value him at around £40 million.
He has scored 130 goals in in 339 career appearances for club and country (Transfermarkt) – a very impressive return.
Tammy Abraham is an extremely good player on his day, and he can be unplayable at times. He would be a brilliant signing for West Ham…if he remained fit.
However, that’s far from guaranteed. The 26-year-old has missed 301 days of football since rupturing his ACL when playing for Roma back in 2023 (Transfermarkt).
So it’s debatable as to whether the Hammers owners will be prepared to risk £25 million on a player who’s struggled so badly with a serious injury.
