The Hammers have actually regressed as a team since Lopetegui took over, and that’s unacceptable given how bad we were during the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
Big change lies ahead for West Ham, but getting Lopetegui’s appointment 100 per cent spot on will be pivotal.
Bringing in someone like Cooper will do us no good whatsoever – It will be yet another backwards step from the club.
If it’s not Potter, I expect the club to appoint someone with a progressive view of the game at least. And it seems like that’s exactly the type of manager on the West Ham owners’ radar.

Whilst the 49-year-old is the favourite to be named the new Hammers boss when Lopetegui is moved on, another name is still very much in the mix.
Edin Terzic is said to be an option for West Ham according to The Guardian, although he’s not convinced about taking the role. Described as a genius, Terzic worked wonders with his former club Borussia Dortmund.
He has been heavily linked with the Hammers job over the past few months, and his availability as a free agent will undoubtedly appeal to David Sullivan.
The 42-year-old led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, and lost out on the Bundesliga title purely because of an inferior goal difference to Bayern Munich in the 2022/23 season.
He is an intense coach who is sound defensively, and has his teams set up in a very well-organised manner – something we desperately need.
Don’t get me wrong, he can set up defensively at times, but there’s nothing wrong with that. I would actually love to see us defend properly as a unit.
However, his teams have generally played quick, progressive and entertaining football on the whole.
Edin Terzic also has extensive experience of managing big egos during his time at Dortmund, and that would undoubtedly come in handy at West Ham.
Put it this way, he would be a big upgrade on Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, but so would Graham Potter.
And it’s the former Chelsea boss who is the man I believe we need to take us to another level.
