The Redknapps have brutally called out David Moyes on his post-match interview claims after the West Ham surrender at Liverpool.
West Ham were dumped out of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals by Liverpool 5-1 on a dismal night at Anfield.
Many West Ham fans were angry with David Moyes over his team selection and approach, feeling he had waved the white flag from the off.
For the second successive away game the Hammers shipped five goals on a night to forget for the 6k fans who travelled to Liverpool knowing there were no trains home just days before Christmas.
After the game Moyes pointed to the fact he had to make changes and insisted his side had been “growing into the game” until they gave away a poor second goal.
Former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp and his Sky Sports pundit son Jamie Redknapp were analysing the game.
And the Redknapps brutally called out Moyes on his post-match interview claims after the West Ham surrender at Liverpool.
Harry said West Ham were lucky to only concede five while Jamie said the only time the Hammers were ‘in the game’ was in the tunnel before kick-off.
“Both teams made changes tonight, it wasn’t like suddenly West Ham played a second XI or something, you know what I mean,” Redknapp senior said on Sky Sports.
“They (West Ham) made (a few), they had some important players they didn’t play for sure, but so did Liverpool. They started without (Mo) Salah, they started without Trent (Alexander-Arnold), there were changes in their team as well. And if I look at the two teams I really did expect a lot more from West Ham.
“They’ve been doing great, I’m a big fan of David’s as well. But they didn’t play well tonight, you can’t sit here and say they played well, I think they done well to get away with five in the end. I mean they’ve had two shots at goal and Liverpool have had how many, 29. That was how one-sided it was, there was a massive gulf in class and energy between the two teams.”
Harry’s son Jamie did not hold back with his assessment of Moyes’ comments either, with Harry nodding in approval.
“The only time they were in it was in the tunnel before the game. Not good enough in any stretch… Just not good enough. I think West Ham fans would have looked at that today – especially having had a little taste of it last year winning something, it means so much to them… I genuinely think David Moyes’ game plan was ‘we’re going to sit back, we’re a big, strong team, we’re going to get back in numbers’… they were so passive in everything they did and you can’t play football like that, it’s very difficult to switch it.
“At half-time you think ‘Oh we’re in it at 1-0’ – no you’re not because there’s still only one winner because Liverpool are in the ascendancy. They never got close enough to people. The energy that Liverpool possessed – and they’ve had equally as many games – they didn’t look tired any of their players. I get the two squads don’t match up in terms of what West Ham have but there’s still enough players (to compete). Especially leaving out (Lucas) Paqueta – everybody wants to play at Anfield and show what you can do.”
