West Ham need a win to bounce back from the disappointing 4-3 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, whilst Tottenham need all three points to keep pace in the race for the top four.
It should be a belter at the London Stadium, but there’s some worrying news for the West Ham fans to digest.
Bad news for West Ham ahead of Tottenham clash
The Premier League have announced via their official website that Andy Madley will be on VAR duty for our clash with Spurs.
That’s bad news for West Ham as far as I’m concerned.
Madley has history with the Hammers and played a part in one of the worst decisions I have ever seen given during a Premier League football match.
The 40-year-old was in charge of the match between West Ham and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season, and after being sent to the pitch side monitor, he ruled out Maxwel Cornet’s equaliser late on in the match.
The decision was an absolutely farcical one. Sure he didn’t rule the goal out originally, but he still chose to disallow it after viewing the incident on the monitor.
The last thing West Ham need is Andy Madley to buckle under the pressure during our game against Spurs on Tuesday. I’m sure the Hammers fans will join me in thinking why on earth he has been given another chance to influence one of our games in a VAR capacity, after making such a shocking decision that affected us so badly last season.
We’ve only won three of the seven games that Madley has refereed for us as well (Transfermarkt), albeit this time around he’ll be on VAR duty.
The so-called ‘Big Six’ seem to complain about officials until they get their way, after shocking decisions get made against them, and said officials won’t referee their games for the foreseeable future.
This doesn’t seem to happen to us though. And it could well be West Ham against Tottenham and the Premier League officials once again in two day’s time.
