Pundit urges West Ham to cancel loan deal that should never have happened

West Ham told to bring ‘leader’ back to London Stadium. Martin Allen has urged West Ham to recall James Ward-Prowse ahead of the second half of the season.

The midfielder was loaned out to Nottingham Forest in the summer, although his minutes have been limited amid Forest’s success, with the Tricky Trees third in the table.

The 30-year-old has made just nine appearances during the campaign with only 18 minutes of playing time from his side’s last eight games.

With the Hammers struggling under Julen Lopetegui, Allen has suggested that Ward-Prowse could be exactly what is needed in East London as he posted on X: “Ward Prowse? Can we recall him? Error to let him go.”

The former West Ham man then followed up to say: “He’s a leader type character, proper bloke. Not a chicken.” James Ward-Prowse could be what West Ham need. Lopetegui’s tenure at The London Stadium has not gone to plan which has left big questions over his future in East London with Graham Potter reportedly lined up to replace the boss.

Regardless of who is in charge, there needs to be change at West Ham during the January transfer window if the Irons are going to have a more successful second half of the campaign.

Furthermore, with the Hammers needing to offload players before they are able [The Telegraph, 30 December] to bring in new faces, it leaves the hierarchy needing to be creative in the ways they refresh the squad.

With injury issues leaving the East London outfit short in front of goal, the midfielder could solve both a problem in midfield and upfront given he provided seven goals and seven assists in his first season with the club.

In addition to this, as Allen points out, the 30-year-old could certainly provide a level of leadership that is lacking at West Ham with too many players looking stuck for ideas throughout the campaign so far.

In other West Ham news, the arrival of Graham Potter could scupper one Hammers transfer in January.
