Premier League officials release statement concerning goal ruled out

Premier League release Man United statement during Leicester City clash

Man United forward Alejandro Garancho had a goal ruled out for offside against Leicester City on Sunday evening

The Premier League have released a statement to explain why Alejandro Garnacho‘s second-half finish against Leicester City was ruled offside.

The Manchester United winger thought he had put Ruben Amorim’s side 2-0 up as he and his teammates raced toward the away end to celebrate, but the flag eventually went up. It was a delayed call.

And a statement has now been released by the Premier League’s official match centre account on X to explain the decision

“The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by the VAR – with Garnacho in an offside position,” they confirmed.

Garancho eventually did score moments later to double United’s lead. Captain Bruno Fernandes then added some gloss to United’s performance with a fine finish to make it 3-0.

United’s positive evening has been dampened, however, after Ayden Heaven suffered what looked to be a serious injury. The centre-back was stretched off at the King Power Stadium.

Heaven was carried off the pitch and replaced by Toby Collyer. “It’s the way that he went down, Ayden Heaven,” Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe said during the broadcaster’s coverage of the match. “It was awkward, a twisting motion.”

“How unfortunate is this? He’s just got his break, just got himself into the team.

“It doesn’t look good. You can only wish him all the best.”

Former Republic of Ireland international Clinton Morrison commented on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Heaven signalled to the bench straight away. Maybe he rolled something but you’ve got to hope the young man is alright.”
