Premier League make announcement on West Ham incident v Brentford

Premier League make announcement about West Ham United v Brentford incident. West Ham were torn to pieces by Brentford in the first half of the Premier League clash at the London Stadium on Saturday.

It was a nightmare start for the Irons, with Kevin Schade opening the scoring within minutes. Graham Potter will have been fuming with his West Ham side, but it didn’t get any better with that early goal not serving as the warning that was needed.

It could have been worse for the Irons though, with Yoane Wissa thinking he had scored a second, only for VAR to disallow it for offside.

Premier League react to West Ham controversy

Potter and West Ham will have been thanking their lucky stars that Kristoffer Ajer was in an offside position before Wissa swept home a potential second goal.

It would have been exactly what Brentford deserved too after a shocking first half at the London Stadium. The Premier League Match Centre released a statement, reading: “VAR recommended that Brentford’s goal was disallowed as Ajer was in an offside position in the build-up.”

West Ham need to recover in Premier League

Despite looking better in the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea last time out before this one, it means absolutely nothing if you don’t back it up with a win.

West Ham fans were raging with how the Irons started, and rightly so, with shocking football and no attacking impetus, relying solely on luck to stay in the game.

Jarrod Bowen cannot be relied upon to create magic in every single Premier League outing, especially after being out for weeks through a crushing injury blow at West Ham.

With Evan Ferguson on the bench for the first time since starting on loan from Brighton, it is very likely that he will be coming on to make a huge difference in the final third.

Playing with no number nine was always going to catch up with Potter, and although injuries have played a massive part in that, he has no excuses now with the Republic of Ireland international.

West Ham have only won once in all competitions in 2025, and based on the early evidence that will not be changing against Brentford unless something drastic changes in the second half.
