Potter ready to bin Lopetegui signing who earns too much at West Ham

Potter ready to bin Lopetegui signing who earns too much at West Ham. West Ham boss Graham Potter has struggled to turn around the club’s fortunes after replacing Julen Lopetegui.

The Irons sit 16th in the Premier League after a miserable season and the Spaniard was sacked on 8 January after less than eight months in charge. However, since the former Chelsea boss was appointed, the Hammers have won just once in six matches in all competitions.

Graham Potter will want to stamp his own image on the squad in the summer and one star who was signed by Lopetegui might be on the chopping block.

Carlos Soler to be axed by Graham Potter at West Ham. A report from Sean Whetstone (16 February) claims that the Irons are set to decline the chance to activate the £16.9 million buy option in Carlos Soler’s loan deal despite the fee being achievable.

The West Ham insider claims that the East London club are planning a “mini-overhaul” in the summer transfer window.

As a result, Potter will bring in his own players and the Spaniard is unlikely to join the Hammers on a permanent basis due to his high wages.

Graham Potter needs quality additions at West Ham

The Hammers failed to add sufficient quality last summer and sporting director Tim Steidten paid the ultimate price as he was dismissed from his post.

The East London club are under pressure to nail the summer transfer window to ensure that Potter has the squad at his disposal to take them back into Europe after that miserable rebuild.

Soler has failed to shine in a poor Irons team this season, featuring 20 times in the Premier League but starting just 12 matches.

With the level of quality and experience that he brought to the club, he was expected to be a key figure for the club but his performance have not been up to the standard that is required.

It is no surprise that West Ham are ready to part with the Spanish international and move in a different direction, his displays have not justified his high earnings and a permanent deal would likely leave the Irons lacking in other areas.

Gary Lineker had Joe Hart agreeing with him after his admission about Graham Potter’s form with West Ham on Match of the Day.

It was a defeat for West Ham against Brentford on Saturday (15 February) as the Irons were on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.

This leaves the Hammers sitting 16th in the Premier League table, not where they would’ve hoped to find themselves under new management.

Gary Lineker moots slow Graham Potter start

West Ham have won just one of their six games under the management of Potter, drawing once and losing four times in all competitions.

The boss hasn’t had the easiest of circumstances during his time at The London Stadium so far with a number of injuries in the squad, including Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug missing up top leaving limited options.

However, having had a break over FA Cup weekend, Potter was able to regain some players through fitness as well as having Evan Ferguson available to make his West Ham debut.

Nevertheless, it was another defeat for the Irons on Saturday, despite a fairly equal performance.

As a result, Gary Lineker was left questioning the manager’s start to life in East London as he pondered on Match of the Day (15 February): “One win in six for Graham Potter. Not really the bounce or the start that he would’ve wanted.”
