Potter finally breaks silence on West Ham summer budget and leaves Sullivan nowhere to hide

Graham Potter finally breaks silence on West Ham summer budget and leaves David Sullivan nowhere to hide. West Ham United head coach Graham Potter faces a vitally important summer ahead of him.

Potter is planning a huge rebuild at West Ham, and rightly so – the squad is nowhere near good enough to challenge for the top 10, let alone the European places.

The squad building at West Ham has been truly horrendous over the past couple of years, and it has created a big problem for Potter now.

The Hammers head coach has the unenviable task on his hands of cleaning up the mess left behind by Julen Lopetegui, Tim Steidten and even David Moyes to a certain extent.

The good news is that the future can still be very bright for the Hammers, if everyone at the club pulls in the same direction. Potter has praised the West Ham fans for their support since he arrived at the London Stadium.

However, the really hard work will start in the summer.

Graham Potter breaks silence on West Ham summer budget

Hammers fans want to see Potter put together a younger, energetic and more dynamic squad. West Ham currently have the oldest squad in the Premier League, and that has to change.

However, will Potter be backed to the hilt in the summer transfer window?

He opened up on the summer transfer window during his press conference on Friday, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“The potential here is huge and exciting. We have a lot of things going for us. The resources are there to be competitive. We have a really ambitious and supportive board. Now it is about building a foundation to allow us to achieve.”

It was hugely important for the fans to hear that.

All we’ve been hearing over the past few weeks from the usual board mouthpieces is that funds are tight at West Ham. Now Potter has firmly piled the pressure on David Sullivan with those comments above.

He has left the Hammers co-owner with absolutely nowhere to hide – West Ham have to spend money this summer otherwise there will be some serious questions asked of Sullivan.

Big West Ham rebuild could see star players leave

In order for Potter to adequately strengthen his squad, a couple of sacrifices will have to be made.

There’s every chance that Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta will be sold this summer.

Obviously the outcome of the latter’s spot-fixing trial will decide whether or not the Hammers will be able to move him on for a fee.

The Ghanaian and the Brazilian have been nowhere near good enough for the Hammers this season, and if we manage to get anything more than £80 million for the pair of them, we’ll be in great shape moving forward. However, Potter has made it very clear that the funds are already there for him at West Ham.
