PAUL MERSON COMPLETELY CHANGES HIS MIND ABOUT ANGE POSTECOGLOU’S TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

When Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, many were expecting the worst for the club.

Not only were Tottenham losing such an important figure of their team, but their all-time leading goalscorer, and that days before the new Premier League season.

That saw outspoken pundit Paul Merson predict Tottenham to finish in the Premier League’s bottom half, as he told Sky Sports, at the time.

But now the former Arsenal man has made a complete U-turn and thinks ‘Tottenham are back’, as he told Sky Sports News (16/12/23 at 12:10 pm).

On Friday night, Ange Postecoglou’s side recorded a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest to maintain fifth spot in the table, with the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United hunting them down.

It also needs to be noted that, before the likes of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven suffered big injuries, they were sitting at the top of the table.

So, with those two nearing a return to action, Paul Merson thinks that the London club are now a ‘massive threat’ to finish in the Premier League’s top four.

    Tottenham to secure Champions League?

“I have to say, Tottenham are back, if I am honest,” said Merson. “Getting a couple of players here and there. I think they are a massive threat for the top four.”

    January transfer window

Tottenham’s business in the summer was outstanding. You can’t pick out a fault, other than every single purchase being impactful.

Bearing that in mind, what is Daniel Levy going to plan to do in January?

Not only have Spurs been hit with injuries, but senior players, such as Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Hugo Lloris just aren’t in Postecoglou’s plans.

So, if they can leave, then bringing in fresh faces to boost the squad might prove to be the difference in Champions League football returning to Hotspur Way next season.

Only a few years ago, the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentencur joined in the winter to push the team over that line at the expense of Arsenal.
