‘Outstanding’ – Danny Murphy blown away by West Ham ace as Liverpool footage emerged on MOTD

Murphy blown away by ‘outstanding’ MOTD footage of West Ham ace Kudus v Liverpool. Danny Murphy has piled praise on Mohammed Kudus despite West Ham falling to a late defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Hammers travelled to Anfield on 13 April and so nearly came away with a point thanks to an Andy Robertson own goal on 86 minutes. Just three minutes later, Virgil van Dijk headed home the winner to subject Graham Potter’s side to a third defeat in five Premier League outings.

Despite the frustration of the result, Kudus can hold his head up high after being picked out by former Reds midfielder Murphy.

Murphy gushes over Kudus v Liverpool

There is no doubt that the Ghana international has had a difficult season and has failed to live up to his own high expectations. The man signed from Ajax was superb in his debut campaign at the London Stadium but hasn’t shown that same level in claret and blue this year.

This has seen Kudus linked with a move away from West Ham, but his performance against Liverpool could prove to be a turning point.

The 24-year-old’s crowning moment came as he curled a looping effort towards the top corner and so nearly scored, with Alisson making a miraculous save to tip it onto the bar.

This saw Murphy pick out the Ghanaian on Match of the Day 2 (13 April) and show their appreciation for the forward.

He said: “Kudus was outstanding. I really like him. His hold-up play is great, he’s a threat, really strong. Dion Dublin was in full agreement as he added: “He had a proper go today.”

Kudus needs to build on West Ham showing v Liverpool

The versatile attacker has shown that he still does have the ability to be a star for the Hammers, but he just hasn’t shown it consistently.

Three goals and two assists in the Premier League just isn’t good enough as a record and needs to be improved moving into the new campaign.

    Appearances 26

    Goals 3

    Assists 2

The defeat at Anfield could represent a perfect starting ground to build from as Kudus outshone the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta on the day.

It will now be interesting to see if the former Nordsjaelland man can maintain that level and can showcase it regularly under Potter in East London.
