West Ham United: Blaise Uwandji on trial with Queens Park Rangers
West Ham United younster Blaise Uwandji has been spotted on trial with Queens Park Rangers ahead of a summer exit, according to West London Sport.
Writing on their website (22 March), the news outlet report that the 20-year-old forward has headed across London with a permanent exit from the Hammers expected when his contract expires this summer.
“Fulham’s Ma’kel Bogle-Campbell is one of four players featuring in a match for QPR’s development side today,” they wrote.
“Right-back Nick Nkansa-Dwamena, 18, and left-back Henry Curtis, 20, both of Ipswich Town, are also in the Rangers side to face Sheffield Wednesday, as is forward Blaise Uwandji, 20, of West Ham.
“All four players have been given a trial with the R’s as they are expected to be released from their contracts at the end of the season.”
West Ham levels have risen in recent times
The levels at West Ham have always been high in the academy, and if you’re good enough you’ll get your opportunity to break through.
But in recent years the levels of the first-team have risen with the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice, Kurt Zouma and Michail Antonio dominating the starting positions.
That means it’s harder than ever for anyone from the academy to break into the side, and if the likes of Divin Mubama are struggling to get chances then someone like Uwandji never really stood a chance.
West Ham
At 20 years old he is at a place in his career where he needs to be playing regularly and developing if he wants to reach his potential, and that just won’t happen at West Ham.
A move to QPR looks like a solid option for him and will get him off the books at the London Stadium to free up space for someone else to stake their claim.
