West Ham are set for a significant summer of change, with ExWHUEmployee updating on the current state of play with existing players.
Following the conclusion of the Premier League season on Sunday, east London is now firmly in the mindset of a huge summer rebuild under our new Head Coach Julen Lopetegui, who is set to be confirmed in the coming days.
The former Spain boss will be working firmly alongside Technical Director Tim Steidten, who is looking to revolutionise the clubs recruitment structure, with also a closer look on our Academy talent.
The club also have existing senior players who could well have played their last games for the club, with our club insider Ex providing an update on The West Ham Way Podcast.
“So first of all, Lucasz Fabianski has signed a year extension to remain at the club, and interestingly, Aaron Cresswell is also set to remain as a backup defender for another season at least – with Lopetegui a fan of his personality,” said the Podcast co-host.
“One that is quite sad is Angelo Ogbonna, who looks to have played his last game for the for the club.
“Antonio’s future seems secure at the club as Lopetegui is a big admirer, so he is likely to have a role to play under the new boss next season.
“Nayef Aguerd could be allowed to leave the club with the player understood to be keen to move on. Although the club will try again, Ben Johnson looks now almost certain to leave with plenty of clubs keen.
“Divin Mubuma looks to have played his last game and also has a number of admirers, with the club set to receive compensation due to his age.”
Ex also provided an update on other Academy players, with some likely to be granted loan spells next season to help their development.
“Luizao is likely to depart this summer, with a return to south America looking the more probable move at this stage.
“Calum Marshall is on course for another loan next season, although Dan Potts will be assessed, and it will be decided if he is to be allowed a loan to the Championship.”
